The 39th African Union Summit Kicks Off in Addis Ababa


Sheikh Shakhbout bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, confirmed that the UAE's investments in the continent between 2019 and 2023 have exceeded $110 billion, coinciding with the 39th African Union Summit in Addis Ababa, which focused on partnership with the African continent.


He explained that the UAE has invested $4.5 billion to accelerate clean energy projects in Africa, as part of its support for the transition to sustainable energy sources.


Sheikh Shakhbout noted that over the past decade, the UAE has provided approximately $20.9 billion in development, humanitarian, and charitable aid to African countries, pointing out that the UAE's contribution constituted 40 percent of the total foreign aid provided to the African continent.


He emphasized that the UAE's approach reflects its vision based on partnership and structured cooperation in the coming decades, which supports sustainable development and strengthens shared interests.


The UAE is participating in the 39th African Union Summit with a high-level delegation, reflecting its strong relations with African countries based on partnerships and institutional cooperation across various fields.


The UAE joined the African Union as an observer member fifteen years ago, which has strengthened its role in supporting the continent's countries and their development projects.
