
The UAE supports the joint Sudan Humanitarian Fund.
In an agreement with OCHA, the UAE contributes $5 million to Sudan
The Emirates International Aid Agency (EIDA) signed a cooperation agreement with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), under which the UAE will contribute $5 million to support the Sudan Humanitarian Fund.
This contribution aims to support the emergency humanitarian response in Sudan and help meet the urgent needs of those most affected by the crisis.
In the presence of Dr. Tariq Ahmed Al Ameri, Chairman of EIDA, the agreement was signed by Rashid Salem Al Shamsi, Executive Director of Logistics Support at EIDA, and Sajida Al Shawa, Head of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in the UAE.
On this occasion, Tariq Ahmed Al Ameri stated that, given the current crisis between the parties to the conflict in Sudan; The UAE continues its urgent humanitarian response and stands with those affected by this tragic civil war, supporting joint international efforts to meet pressing humanitarian needs and save lives in war zones and conflict areas.
He noted that the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Sudan, and the resulting displacement to neighboring countries such as Chad, South Sudan, Uganda, and Ethiopia, necessitates a doubling of joint humanitarian efforts and an urgent response to ensure a swift and early recovery, achieve stability, and overcome the difficult living conditions.
For her part, Sajida Al Shawa said, “We extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to the UAE for its generous contribution of US$5 million to the Sudan Humanitarian Fund.
This important contribution will contribute to strengthening the collective efforts led by the United Nations, represented by the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), and its partners to reach the most vulnerable and crisis-affected groups in Sudan and provide timely, life-saving humanitarian assistance in accordance with humanitarian principles.”
She added that, given the unprecedented humanitarian needs; This contribution reflects the UAE's unwavering commitment to the spirit of solidarity and humanitarian leadership, ensuring that aid reaches those most in need.
It is worth noting that the UAE continues its ongoing support for humanitarian relief efforts for the brotherly Sudanese people, as part of its firm and enduring commitment to supporting efforts to address the catastrophic crisis in Sudan. The UAE provided $4.24 billion to Sudan over the past decade (2015-2025), and has allocated $784 million in humanitarian aid since the outbreak of the current crisis (2023-2025).
The UAE emphasizes the importance of collective action with regional and international partners, and the importance of establishing a humanitarian truce that guarantees the protection of civilians and facilitates the opening of safe corridors for the unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid to those in need, thus ensuring stability and peace for the brotherly Sudanese people.
