Cooperation between the UAE and Canada in the nuclear field

The UAE and Canada Collaborate to Enhance Nuclear Research

The Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Saskatchewan Research Council, Canada’s leading organization for research and technological development, and the Global Institute of Energy, Minerals and Society in Canada.

This took place on the sidelines of the World Future Energy Summit, with the aim of strengthening cooperation in the fields of nuclear research and development and human capital development.

The memorandum of understanding establishes a framework for cooperation in the field of miniaturized nuclear reactors and advanced reactor systems, as well as working to enhance operational performance and improve the efficiency and reliability of nuclear power plants.

It also explores the practical use of digital applications, including artificial intelligence and robotics, to support safe and responsible nuclear operations.

The MoU supports knowledge exchange and the development of human capital, contributing to long-term capacity building in the nuclear energy sector. It also leverages the UAE’s experience in the implementation and operation of the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant and fosters international cooperation in this sector.
