The UAE Signs International Agreement to Support Humanitarian Efforts in Sudan

The UAE has allocated $11 million to support communities hosting refugees.

The Emirates International Aid Agency signed a cooperation agreement with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) to support humanitarian efforts in Sudan.

Under the agreement, the UAE allocated $11 million as part of the $100 million pledged by the UAE during the UN Security Council meeting last October. Of this amount, $10 million will support communities hosting Sudanese refugees in Chad, South Sudan, Uganda, and Ethiopia, and $1 million will support the IFRC's Disaster Response Emergency Fund.

The agreement was signed by Dr. Tariq Ahmed Al Ameri, Chairman of the Emirates International Aid Agency, and Jagan Chapagain, Secretary General of the IFRC, to support the urgent humanitarian response and assist those affected by the ongoing conflict in Sudan.

In this context, Al Ameri affirmed the UAE's commitment to its international and moral responsibilities towards those affected by disasters, crises, wars, and conflicts worldwide.

He emphasized the UAE's continued support for joint international efforts to meet urgent humanitarian needs and its close collaboration with international partners and relevant organizations to ensure the delivery of essential aid and basic necessities to all segments of society, particularly the most vulnerable groups such as children, women, and the elderly. This support aims to bolster humanitarian stability and save lives in conflict zones.

He stated that the UAE's allocation of this sum to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies' Disaster Response Emergency Fund comes amidst the escalating humanitarian crisis and the resulting widespread displacement within Sudan and neighboring countries.

This necessitates intensified joint international efforts and an urgent response to enhance the provision of essential services and empower more than one million Sudanese refugees and their host communities in Chad, South Sudan, Uganda, and Ethiopia to persevere.

For his part, the Secretary General of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies stated that the current crisis in Sudan has resulted in one of the world's largest displacements, placing immense pressure on neighboring countries hosting refugees.

He added that this agreement with the UAE's International Aid Agency will enable Red Cross and Red Crescent societies in Chad, South Sudan, Uganda, and Ethiopia to expand their provision of essential health, water, and sanitation services to refugees and their host communities.

It will also support the Federation's Disaster Response Emergency Fund to deliver rapid and effective humanitarian aid.

Nusseibeh: The UAE is committed to working towards a humanitarian truce in Sudan.

According to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), the agreement comes "within the framework of the UAE's ongoing support for humanitarian relief efforts for our Sudanese brothers and sisters, reflecting its unwavering commitment to supporting efforts to address this catastrophic crisis in Sudan and to working collectively with regional and international partners to ensure stability and peace for the brotherly Sudanese people."

The UAE has consistently focused its efforts primarily on humanitarian aspects, reflecting its unwavering commitment to providing relief support to the Sudanese people. The country provided $4.24 billion to Sudan over the past decade (2015-2025), and has allocated $784 million in humanitarian aid since the outbreak of the current crisis (2023-2025).

According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the UAE is the second largest donor of aid to Sudan after the United States since the start of the conflict.
