Egyptian source.. Intensive contacts underway to reach an agreement on Gaza as soon as possible

An official Egyptian source confirmed that contacts are underway with all parties in an attempt to reach an agreement  on Gaza as soon as possible، and Egypt has asked both parties to show the necessary flexibility to reach an agreement to address the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip

The source revealed ongoing Egyptian-Qatari-American coordination regarding ceasefire negotiations and prisoner exchanges, stressing that Egypt has asked both parties to show the necessary flexibility to reach an agreement to address the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip. The source indicated that intensive Egyptian contacts are underway to bring the concerned parties closer to returning to calm.

US envoy Steve Witkoff told the American website Axios on Monday that he was "disappointed" that Hamas had so far rejected his proposal for a new agreement on prisoners and a ceasefire in Gaza. Witkoff has communicated directly with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his senior advisor, Ron Dermer, and with the Hamas leadership through a back channel facilitated by Palestinian-American businessman Bishara Bahbah. Witkoff said, "What I saw from Hamas is disappointing and completely unacceptable."

In contrast, Hamas officials briefed Arab media on Monday that the United States had presented a new proposal for a prisoner exchange and ceasefire agreement. According to reports, the proposal includes a 60-day ceasefire with the release of five live prisoners on the first day and five more live prisoners on the last day.

Hamas officials described the proposal as including increased humanitarian aid deliveries to Gaza and a withdrawal of Israeli forces to the lines they held in March before the resumption of the war. According to the movement, the American proposal stipulates that during the ceasefire negotiations, the United States guarantees that Israel will negotiate seriously and will not unilaterally resume the war, as it did in previous ceasefires.

The report explained that the American proposal differs from the one presented by Hamas on Monday in terms of the number of live prisoners and bodies to be released during the ceasefire, and the timing and sequence of the releases. Witkoff's latest proposal includes the release of 10 living prisoners and 19 dead prisoners in exchange for a ceasefire of 45 to 60 days and the release of Palestinian prisoners.
