Ma’an Discusses Economic Sustainability Opportunities with Al Shuwaib Farmers
The Authority of Social Contribution – Ma’an – in partnership with the Emirates Council for Balanced Development and the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority, organized a community meeting with farmers in the Al Shuwaib area of Al Ain.
The meeting aimed to explore ways to empower farmers and enhance the economic viability of their farms, thereby contributing to the sustainability of the agricultural sector and the development of local communities.
Participants discussed mechanisms for developing farms in the Al Shuwaib area and transforming them into sustainable agricultural, tourism, and commercial destinations. This transformation would be based on authentic agritourism experiences>
innovation, and digital empowerment, thereby strengthening the agricultural sector's contribution to the local economy and supporting the Emirate of Abu Dhabi's drive towards economic diversification, sustainable development, and enhancing the sector's role in tourism.
They also discussed the creation of support projects, such as digital platforms, designed to enhance farmers' capabilities, guide them on modern agricultural practices, and provide farm owners with specialized content on management and operation. Furthermore, they discussed offering technical and field consultations to improve farm readiness for visitors and transform farms into profitable economic ventures.
Participants emphasized the importance of capitalizing on the decision to allow economic activities on farms, which has authorized 145 approved economic activities. This will enhance the efficiency of agricultural land use and increase the economic viability of farms.
They stressed the importance of developing innovative business models and the necessity of integrating efforts and expertise to transform farms into productive economic projects, ensuring the success of initiatives and maximizing their impact on society and the agricultural sector.
