"Hope Makers"... Humanitarian stories and an indelible impact on the lives and memories of millions of people

The "Hope Makers" initiative, launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, may God protect him, in 2017, presented tens of thousands of inspiring humanitarian stories, and highlighted Arab models to be emulated in giving, dedication, empathy for the suffering of others, self-denial, and a sincere desire to change the reality of societies for the better through innovative volunteer projects and initiatives that left an indelible impact on the lives and memories of millions of people.

Year after year, the "Hope Makers" initiative becomes more established in the humanitarian work scene in the Arab world, and in each new edition it reveals heroes in giving who have dedicated their time and effort to launching and implementing charitable initiatives, and mobilizing community efforts to uphold noble values and support everyone who needs help.

While the Arab world awaits the crowning of the first hope makers at the conclusion of the fifth edition of the largest Arab initiative of its kind, dedicated to celebrating the givers in the Arab world on February 23 in Dubai, the stories of the winners of the past editions, the latest of which was written by the heroes of the fourth edition, remain present in the memory, inspiring giving to new generations of Arab youth.

Healing the pain

The life of the Iraqi hope maker, Dr. Tala Al-Khalil, changed when a mother asked her to help convince her child to eat and take his medicine. After she learned during her studies how to mix compounds to obtain a medicine that treats people’s pain, she realized that she had to learn how to mix other types of compounds that treat the souls of those she called the warriors, the children with disabilities, as she wrote with them chapters of an inspiring story that began with the establishment of the “Warriors Academy” in Basra, a free institution for the care and assistance of children with disabilities in Iraq.

Tala Al-Khalil began her journey in the world of hope-making in 2015, when she allocated a "caravan" in the Children's Specialized Hospital in Basra to receive children with cancer, to instill hope and overcome many challenges, most notably their inability to complete their studies, integrate into society, or even find a space for hope in their lives, because they are surrounded only by illness and medicine, and the deaf walls of the hospital. This "caravan" was like a new space that restored hope to their hearts, and from here came the idea of establishing the academy project.

Hope maker Tala Al-Khalil works to provide psychological support to children, believing that this support increases the rate of recovery, and that a good psychological state has a great impact on strengthening the immune system and resisting this fierce disease. For this reason, she used the arts to raise the immunity of children with cancer or Down syndrome.

Insistence on Success

In his quest to improve the quality of life and raise the standard of living for the less fortunate families in his country, Moroccan hope maker Amin Imneer has turned his social media accounts into a new gateway for giving. Despite his belief that this path is not easy, he did not despair and insisted on continuing to create hope, as he always emphasizes that he has dedicated his life to helping his countrymen.

The Moroccan hope maker, head of the Aftas Association for Development and Cooperation, has adopted many humanitarian initiatives and campaigns that seek to alleviate the suffering of his countrymen. He organizes many relief campaigns to distribute aid to the needy in the Kingdom of Morocco. This relief aid includes distributing sacrifices, food baskets, digging wells, building bridges, and other charitable works.

Hope maker Amin Imneer does not tire of working to provide financial aid from benefactors throughout the country, in order to use it to distribute food supplies to the needy, dig wells in remote areas and villages, and even provide medical aid and medicines and perform free surgeries for patients and the elderly, among other things. Emneer is keen to document all his humanitarian activities through his Facebook channel on YouTube, in order to motivate others to follow the paths of giving, and spread the culture of humanitarian work by transmitting simple and spontaneous images of the humanitarian initiatives that the Aftas Association for Development and Cooperation is working on.

Hope Care

The Egyptian Fathia Al-Mahmoud, nicknamed "Mother of Orphans" and "Mama Fathia", is an inspiring model for embracing hope and nurturing it in its early stages of formation, based on her belief that the commitment to nurturing the industry of hope since childhood yields giving in adulthood, which prompted her to receive dozens of orphans in her home, to write since 2005 the chapters of the story of an inspiring woman and represent a model for the soldiers of good who devoted their lives to serving the less fortunate groups.

The story of "Mama Fathiya", who founded the Lamset Amal Association for Orphan Care, to take care of girls, began while she was at her friend's funeral, where she saw her daughter striving to pray for her, and here the question came to her mind "Who will pray for me after my death?!" She found that there are many orphaned children without shelter, and there are not enough homes to contain them and take care of them, and give them the necessary attention and warm embrace to bring out talents and energies from within them that make them special among their peers in society, and achieve a balance between their psychological and social states, so she decided to search for children to adopt.

Although the responsibility of raising dozens of girls, some of whom have reached an age that requires special care, is not an easy matter and requires a lot of time and effort, she finds special pleasure in this heavy responsibility, as she is keen to perform all her duties towards her daughters with passion and precision.

Mama Fathiya believes that every personal effort made in giving and doing good will make a big difference in the lives of communities and those in need, and will bring the doer an overwhelming happiness that cannot be matched by the treasures of the world.

This was a motive and incentive for her to acquire knowledge of the affairs of upbringing and its details, and how to provide appropriate care for these girls in the beginning, which helped her overcome many psychological pressures and challenges, as she learned from experience to the point that she gained the ability to understand her daughters’ needs just from a glance.
