Salah Makes History: The First Player to Win the Best Award Three Times

Egyptian star Mohamed Salah, the Liverpool striker, won the PFA Player of the Year award on Tuesday for the third time in his career, becoming the first player in the award's history to win it three times since its inception in the 1973-1974 season.

Salah received the highest number of votes from members of the Players' Union and the Professional Footballers' Association, winning the award for the third time in nine seasons. The Egyptian striker surpassed a host of football legends who have played in English football by winning the award for the third time, surpassing Mark Hughes, Alan Shearer, Cristiano Ronaldo, Thierry Henry, Gareth Bale, and Kevin De Bruyne, who have all won it twice.

Salah won the award for the first time in his career in the 2017-2018 season, his first with Liverpool, and won it for the second time in the 2021-2022 season, before winning it for a third time following his impressive performances last season, which led his team to the Premier League title.
