Egypt Signs Memorandum of Understanding with Japan to Develop Green Hydrogen Projects

Egyptian Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding for cooperation between the General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's Bureau of Industrial and Labor Affairs. The signing took place on the sidelines of his participation in the Tokyo International Summit on African Development (TICAD 9) in Yokohama, Japan, representing Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, according to a statement from the Egyptian Cabinet.

The memorandum of understanding aims to enhance cooperation in the field of green hydrogen through the exchange of expertise, knowledge, and information, stimulating demand in the local and regional markets, supporting various clean energy applications, organizing mutual visits, and expanding cooperation channels between the two parties.

Egypt's Priority in Renewable Energy

Madbouly emphasized that this step comes within the framework of the Egyptian state's strategy to strengthen its position as a leading country in the production and export of green hydrogen regionally and globally. He noted that the cooperation with Japan reflects its position as a major development partner for Egypt in new and renewable energy projects. Egypt seeks to achieve leadership in this sector by attracting major foreign investments in the clean energy sector, in line with global trends to reduce emissions and promote the green economy.

This cooperation with Tokyo represents a new step toward diversifying Egypt's international partnerships in the energy sector, as Japan is considered one of the leading countries in the development of green hydrogen technologies and its industrial applications. This partnership also enhances the Suez Canal Economic Zone's ability to attract foreign direct investment and supports the state's plans to transform the region into a regional hub for clean energy and green industries.
