Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, UAE Minister of Economy and Chairman of the Emirates Tourism Council, confirmed that the tourism sector in the country continues to achieve positive results, noting that the revenues of hotel establishments in the country amounted to about 37.1 billion dirhams (about 10.1 billion dollars) during the period from January to October 2024, with a growth rate of 4 percent compared to the same period in 2023.

He explained that the hotel occupancy rate during the mentioned period reached nearly 78 percent, with a growth rate of 2.7 percent compared to the same period in 2023.

Al Marri expected that this sector would witness further growth during the current year in light of the innovative tourism projects witnessed by the country and the initiatives it is working to implement, according to the official Emirates News Agency.

This came during the chairmanship of the UAE Minister of Economy, Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, of the first meeting of 2025 of the Emirates Tourism Council, which includes the heads and general managers of local tourism authorities in the country; where the council discussed the outcomes of the fifth edition of the "World's Coolest Winter" campaign and its vital role in enhancing the competitiveness of the UAE's position as a leading global tourism destination.

The council also discussed a group of diverse tourism initiatives and projects that it seeks to implement during the current year, which would enhance the growth of the tourism sector in the UAE.

Abdullah bin Touq stressed the continuation of work and strengthening joint cooperation with the relevant tourism authorities and bodies inside and outside the country, to implement tourism initiatives that serve the national goals of the tourism sector, especially with the selection of Al Ain as the capital of Gulf tourism during the year 2025, which supports strengthening the UAE's position as a leading global destination at the regional and global levels.

The meeting participants reviewed the marketing activities and programmes that will be worked on in light of Al Ain being selected as the Gulf Tourism Capital for 2025, which aim to highlight the city's distinctive tourist attractions, as well as encourage inter-tourism between the GCC countries.

They also discussed the latest developments in the major tourism routes project, the first phase of which has been completed, which includes five tourism routes across the seven emirates of the country, enhancing the diverse tourism experiences of visitors and residents in the country, especially ecotourism, cultural tourism, adventure tourism, festivals and events.

The Council discussed the UAE's participation in events, conferences and meetings at the regional and international levels during the current year, and its role in enhancing the prospects of tourism cooperation with many countries and organisations around the world, and exchanging the best experiences and practices in this regard.
