US Treasury seeks Cyber Security Cooperation with UAE

U.S.-UAE Cybersecurity Cooperation

The U.S. Department of the Treasury and the Cyber Security Council of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) announced the finalization of a bilateral Memorandum of Understanding (“MoU”) on Cybersecurity Cooperation during a fireside chat between H.E. Dr. Mohamad Al Kuwaiti, Head of Cyber Security for the UAE Government and Treasury’s Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Office of Cybersecurity and Critical Infrastructure Protection Todd Conklin at the Gitex Global Conference in Dubai, UAE.

“As cyber-attacks and ransomware attacks become more complex, close cooperation is essential to prevent these attacks from impacting the international financial system,” Wally Adeyemo, deputy Treasury secretary, said in a statement.

“We are pleased to have the government of the United Arab Emirates as partners in our global effort to combat these threats and look forward to expanding our partnership,” added Adeyemo, who visited the UAE in 2021 as part of an effort to boost digital cooperation between the two countries.

The Regional Cybersecurity Week kicked off in Abu Dhabi on Monday, organized by the UAE Government Cybersecurity Council, with the participation of 100 experts and speakers from 70 countries, including member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), in addition to 10 international organizations, in cooperation with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the Arab Regional Center for Cybersecurity (ARCC).

Dr. Mohamed Hamad Al Kuwaiti, Head of Cybersecurity of the UAE Government, emphasized the importance of the conference as it contributes to creating a cybersecurity culture, reading challenges, putting forward solutions, and exchanging visions to face any emergency.

The week features a new virtual infrastructure model of the state, which will allow participants to experience the impact of cyber attacks in a realistic way.

Furthermore, the week includes about 50 events that cover a wide range of cybersecurity topics, including the latest trends and developments in cybersecurity, challenges and threats facing cybersecurity, and strategies and best practices for cybersecurity.

The events also include the 11th Regional Cyber Security Conference “Innovation in Cybersecurity,” the 11th Regional Cyber Security Exercise, the FIRST (Forum of Incident Response and Security Teams) workshop, the 15th Annual Conference of the Cybersecurity Centers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC-CERT), and the Arab Meeting of Heads and Representatives of the National Cybersecurity Centers in the Arab Region.
