Enrique mocks: "The Peasant League" has outperformed the English

Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique mocked the description of the French football league as the "Peasant League" after his team qualified for the Champions League final on Wednesday, confirming its superiority over English clubs this season.

The Parisian club added Arsenal to its list of English victims in the most prestigious European competition this season, winning both home and away. This victory came after they had defeated Manchester City in the unified group stage and eliminated Liverpool and Aston Villa en route to the semi-finals.

After winning the league title last month, PSG can now complete a treble by defeating Reims in the French Cup final on May 24, before facing Inter Milan in the Champions League final in Munich a week later.

Enrique, who led PSG to their second Champions League final after losing the 2020 Lisbon final to Bayern Munich, considered the "Peasant League" to have ultimately emerged victorious. Asked if he was proud of knocking out the top two in the Premier League this season, he told TNT Sport: "It's a farmer's league, isn't it? We're a farmer's league."

He added with a smile: "But it's nice. We're enjoying the result and the compliments from everyone who's talking about our team, our mentality, and our way of playing. It's a great feeling." He continued: "Reaching the final means a lot. A lot, really. Our dream was to reach the Champions League final. Our first goal when we arrived in Paris was to make history, and we're on the right track."
