UAE, the guest of honor at Morocco's energy summit

Morocco is hosting an energy conference today focusing on energy transition, as several countries in the MENA region, including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt, and Oman are developing new renewable energy projects.

The 15th Energy Forum, held under the patronage of King Mohammed VI of Morocco, bears the theme “Energy Transition: Progress Report and Prospects for 2035”.

The conference is held in Morocco’s capital Rabat and organized by the Energy Federation in partnership with the Ministry of Energy and Transition and Sustainable Development in Morocco.

The UAE is the guest of honor at the event represented by a high-level delegation led by Dr Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, and the UAE's Special Envoy for Climate Change.

The MENA region has the resources and vision to unlock huge economic potential as the world remains focused on the transition to a lower-carbon economy, according to Dr Al Jaber.

“The energy transition to a lower-carbon future represents a huge economic opportunity that we must seize using every lever available,” Dr Al Jaber, who is also managing director and group chief executive of Adnoc, said last year.

Dr. Sultan Al Jaber said: “Joint projects with Morocco represent a basic pillar that we must build upon, and we are looking forward, through Masdar, to expand with Morocco in the field of hydrogen.”

He continued, “Morocco and the UAE are full of promising investment opportunities in the energy field. They are ready to explore investment opportunities in fossil energy and liquefied gas projects in the Kingdom of Morocco.”

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, has revealed that the UAE will host the Cop28 conference in 2023, the largest global conference of heads of state and government on climate and environmental issues.

Morocco aspires to be part of a sustainable development that respects the environment and allows it to honor its commitments to combat global warming.

In this context, Morocco decided in 2009 to increase the share of renewable energies in the electric energy mix to 42% in 2020 and 52% in 2030.
