UAE Plans to Advance Nuclear Energy and Hydrogen in Cooperation with France
The UAE plans to advance its nuclear energy, hydrogen, and sustainable aviation fuel sectors, as well as carbon reduction technologies and strategies, in cooperation with France.
According to reports, an Emirati delegation, during an official visit to France, discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation and exchanging best practices with the public and private sectors there. The UAE's three-day visit, from May 26 to 29, 2025, aimed to explore innovative solutions to address the challenges of the energy transition.
The Gulf state seeks to expand international partnerships, support sustainable development, and enhance energy security. Discussions focused on strategic areas, including sustainable aviation fuel, hydrogen, advanced nuclear technologies, and carbon emissions reduction.
Nuclear Energy and Hydrogen in the UAE
The delegation, visiting France on a mission to support nuclear energy and hydrogen in the UAE, was led by Eng. Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure for Energy and Petroleum Affairs.
Eng. Sharif Al Olama stated that relations between his country and France are built on solid foundations of partnership and cooperation in the fields of innovation and energy, as they share a firm commitment to sustainable progress, a passion for innovation, and a willingness to embrace future trends.
The delegation began its visit in Paris, attended by representatives of major French companies, to discuss expanding joint projects and exchange views on the national hydrogen strategies of both countries. The meeting also included technical presentations by leading French companies, such as Fives, Technip Energies, Engie, Axen, EDF, HY24, and Dassault Systèmes.
The Nuclear Value Chain in France
Engineer Sharif Al Olama stated that strategic cooperation in the energy sector is a fundamental pillar of the UAE-France partnership, as it is important to unify efforts to achieve emissions reduction goals and enhance energy security.
The delegation also visited several advanced facilities in Paris, including Schneider Electric's Innovation Center, where they were briefed on artificial intelligence solutions in energy management. They also visited the research and development laboratories of Air Liquide, which specializes in industrial and medical gases and technologies.
On the final day of the visit, the delegation moved to Toulouse, where they visited Airbus' prototyping center and the A350 final assembly line, one of the most modern production lines in the aviation sector. They also met with a number of Emirati students interning at the company.
