Bin Zayed and Trump witnessed the UAE-US AI Complex
The largest artificial intelligence complex outside the United States is being built in the UAE
Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and Donald Trump, President of the United States, witnessed the inauguration of the 5-gigawatt UAE-US Artificial Intelligence Complex, the largest of its kind outside the United States, at Qasr Al Watan in Abu Dhabi on Thursday. The complex was launched as part of the US President's state visit to the UAE.
This complex will host US companies capable of leveraging the potential to provide regional computing services with the potential to serve countries in the Global South. It will also provide 5 gigawatts of capacity for AI data centers in Abu Dhabi, creating a regional platform enabling US giants to quickly deliver services to nearly half of the world's population.
Upon completion, the complex will use nuclear, solar, and gas power to reduce carbon emissions and will include a science center to help drive innovation in the field of artificial intelligence. G42 will build and operate the complex in partnership with several US companies.
This collaboration is based on a new framework between the governments of the UAE and the US, called the US-UAE AI Acceleration Partnership, to enhance cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence and advanced technologies. The UAE and the US will work together to regulate access to and use of computing services, which are intended for US-based large-scale computing manufacturers and cloud computing providers, according to the official Emirates News Agency.
On this occasion, Sheikh Tahnoun bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Ruler of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Council for Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Technology, said that the complex represents a model of ongoing and constructive cooperation between the UAE and the US in the field of artificial intelligence.
It also embodies the UAE's commitment to enhancing the prospects of innovation and global cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence, consolidating the country's position as a leading center for advanced research and sustainable development, and achieving the benefit of all humanity.
For his part, US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick said that the complex launches a historic partnership in the Middle East in the field of artificial intelligence between our two countries, and promotes significant investments in advanced semiconductors and data centers across the United States and the UAE.
He noted that American companies will operate data centers in the UAE and provide American-managed cloud services throughout the region. He added that by expanding the scope of the world's leading American technology group to include a key strategic partner in the region, this complex represents a significant achievement in realizing President Donald Trump's vision to enhance the United States' role in the field of artificial intelligence.
It is worth noting that the UAE is working to adopt artificial intelligence technologies in government and business sectors. It was the first country to appoint a Minister of Artificial Intelligence in 2017, and in 2019, it established a specialized artificial intelligence university, the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence.
The UAE was also among the first countries to launch a national artificial intelligence strategy in 2017, the UAE Strategy for Artificial Intelligence, and the UAE is on its way to becoming a global hub for artificial intelligence. This ambitious vision prioritizes the integration of artificial intelligence into vital sectors, including education, healthcare, transportation, and energy, enhancing the country's role and position as a leader in the global AI landscape.
