DEWA Develops Smart Solution for Electricity Distribution Network Design
The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has developed an innovative smart solution for designing electricity distribution networks. This solution supports efficient planning for 11kV networks, improves design efficiency, and reduces the time and cost associated with project implementation.
This enhances the reliability and sustainability of the emirate's electricity distribution system. DEWA is currently implementing this innovation in its energy and water planning sector.
The innovative solution relies on a sophisticated software program designed to link two databases with network design software. This enables users to design 11kV networks more easily and quickly. The software gathers data from various sources, such as peak load schedules, SAP systems, and single-master diagrams, then analyzes and presents it in a unified format to facilitate the creation of accurate and clear designs.
The implementation of this smart solution has contributed to tangible results, including reduced costs associated with planning and design, shorter implementation times, and the facilitation of more streamlined and efficient electricity distribution networks. This enhances the quality of engineering outputs and supports service continuity according to the highest standards.
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), said: “In line with the vision of our wise leadership to promote the integration of advanced technologies across various vital sectors>
Thereby boosting productivity and improving service efficiency, we developed this smart solution. It reflects DEWA’s approach to establishing digital innovation as a cornerstone for developing the planning and operational system in the energy sector, transforming diverse data into practical tools that support decision-making and enhance performance efficiency.”
He added: “Designing electricity distribution networks using advanced software solutions reduces the time required to prepare plans, lowers costs, and enhances design accuracy and flexibility. This supports the readiness of the electricity grid to keep pace with rapid urban and economic growth.
These efforts fall within DEWA’s vision to build a smart and sustainable infrastructure that contributes to achieving Dubai’s long-term strategic goals in the areas of sustainability, innovation, and operational excellence.”
For his part, Abdullah Al Aghbari, Acting Executive Vice President of Energy and Water Planning at DEWA, said: “This advanced software solution provides an effective tool for planning teams, as it integrates data from multiple sources into a single platform.
This contributes to accelerating and increasing the accuracy of design processes, thus supporting more efficient planning decisions.” He emphasized that this innovation reflects the sector’s commitment to adopting smart solutions that enhance the resilience of the electricity grid and support the future growth requirements of Dubai.
DEWA noted that this achievement confirms the authority’s commitment to investing in institutional innovation and developing practical digital solutions led by its employees, which enhances its leadership in the energy sector and supports the building of a smart, reliable and sustainable electricity distribution network that keeps pace with Dubai’s future aspirations.
