Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and US President Donald Trump will chair the Gaza Peace Summit on Monday afternoon in Sharm El-Sheikh, with the attendance of leaders from more than 20 countries, as well as UN Secretary-General António Guterres. Neither Israel nor Hamas will participate in the meeting.

Diplomatic sources reported that the US, Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey will sign a document guaranteeing the ceasefire agreement in Gaza during the upcoming summit. Delegations have begun arriving in Sharm El-Sheikh for the summit, which will begin Monday afternoon in the Red Sea city.

Sisi and Trump will chair the Gaza Peace Summit in Sharm El-Sheikh, with the attendance of leaders from 20 countries, as well as UN Secretary-General Guterres. Neither Israel nor Hamas will participate.

The Egyptian president decided to award his American counterpart the Order of the Nile "in appreciation of his outstanding contributions to supporting peace efforts and defusing conflicts, most recently his pivotal role in stopping the war in Gaza," according to Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, the official spokesperson for the Egyptian presidency, on Monday.

The Order of the Nile is "the highest and most prestigious Egyptian decoration, and it holds the highest rank among all other decorations." It is awarded to heads of state and figures who contribute to serving the nation and humanity.

Regarding this summit, the Egyptian presidency indicated in a statement that the summit aims to end the war in the Gaza Strip. Israel announced that it would not send any representatives to the summit on peace in Gaza, and the spokesperson for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said that "no Israeli official will attend." Hossam Badran, a leader in the Hamas political bureau, also confirmed that the movement would not participate in the signing process.

Egypt: Sisi and Trump to Co-Chair the Sharm el-Sheikh Peace Summit

In statements to Axios, US President Donald Trump described the Gaza agreement as perhaps his "greatest achievement," saying that the list of attendees at the Sharm el-Sheikh summit confirms that "the world is united around his plan for peace in Gaza." Trump considered the presence of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas at the Sharm el-Sheikh peace summit a very good thing. Governance of the Gaza Strip, devastated by the two-year-old war, will be a key focus of the summit.

The countries that mediated the ceasefire will sign a document guaranteeing its implementation, a diplomatic source told Agence France-Presse. The source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said, "The signatories will be the guarantors, namely the United States, Egypt, Qatar, and possibly Turkey." The Egyptian Foreign Ministry had previously indicated that a document to end the war in Gaza would be signed during the summit, which will be co-chaired by the United States and Egypt.
