Murder with Poisoned Bread: Details of the Most Heinous Crime That Shook Egypt

The Egyptian Public Prosecution referred the accused in the murder of 6 children and their father in the Dayr Mawas Center in Minya Governorate to the Criminal Court on charges of premeditated murder. The prosecution announced that it had referred the accused, the father's second wife, to the competent criminal court for the premeditated murder of the victims with poison and the attempted murder of the first wife.

He explained that the Public Prosecution established evidence against the accused based on the investigations and witness statements. It was found that she committed her crime to spite the children's mother, the "first wife," after her husband had taken her back. She exploited her habit of preparing bread at her home and sending it to the children.

She obtained the toxic pesticide chlorfenapyr, mixed it with a piece of bread, and gave it to one of the children at her home. Her health deteriorated, and she became convinced of the poison's effectiveness. Four days later, she prepared several loaves of bread, mixed them with the same pesticide, and sent them to the victims, killing them. The children's mother survived, refusing to eat the bread.

This was confirmed by police investigations, and surveillance cameras captured two children carrying the poisoned bread from the defendant's home to theirs. The Public Prosecution's inspection of the defendant's home, accompanied by forensic experts, and the laboratory examination of samples revealed traces of the toxic pesticide in bread residue and cooking utensils.

This was consistent with the autopsy reports, which indicated that the death resulted from the breakdown of the body's thermoregulation and the failure of vital organs caused by the toxic substance. During interrogation, the defendant admitted to the details of her crime and conducted a video simulation of the crime.
