Larry Ellison Dethrones Elon Musk as the Richest Person on the Planet
Oracle shares surged 40% in trading on Wednesday after announcing unprecedented demand for cloud computing services. The tech giant is on the cusp of its best trading day since 1992 and is just steps away from reaching $1 trillion in market capitalization, currently valued at approximately $950 billion.
Larry Ellison owns a 41% stake in Oracle, meaning a roughly $200 billion increase in his company's market capitalization would boost his fortune by approximately $98.5 billion, making him the top-ranked billionaire on the Bloomberg Billionaires List. Never in history has anyone gained so much wealth in a single day, whether through a surge in stock market value, an inheritance, or the historic split between Jeff Bezos and his ex-wife MacKenzie Scott.
Ellison is already the second-richest person in the world with a fortune estimated at $295 billion. Adding the recent gains to his fortune will bring it to $393 billion, putting him $11 billion ahead of Elon Musk and seizing the top spot for the first time in his history.
Since the beginning of the year, Ellison has been the luckiest billionaire on the Bloomberg Billionaires List, having gained $103 billion before the recent surge in his fortune, which will see his fortune increase by more than $201 billion since the beginning of 2025.
