The Egyptian Ministry of Interior announced the deaths of six dangerous smugglers in clashes with police forces during a raid on their hideout in the south of the country. The Ministry stated that security forces in Aswan Governorate identified "the most dangerous criminal hub for drug and unlicensed firearms trafficking," comprising six highly dangerous criminals operating within the jurisdiction of the Aswan Second Police Station.

The statement explained that these individuals had previously been charged and convicted in criminal cases related to drugs, murder, attempted murder, robbery, possession of a firearm, and thuggery. The statement indicated that their movements were monitored, tracked, and targeted, prompting them to open fire on security forces, who responded with heavy gunfire, resulting in their deaths.

Police seized 40 kilograms of various narcotics from the defendants, including 20 kilograms of marijuana, 10 kilograms of shabu, 5 kilograms of hydro, 5 kilograms of hashish, and 1,000 narcotic pills. They also seized seven firearms, five automatic rifles, a Greenov machine gun, a pistol, two hand grenades, and a large number of bullets of various calibers. The Ministry estimated the financial value of the seized narcotics at approximately 5 million Egyptian pounds.

This announcement was preceded by the revelation that security forces had seized several criminal hotspots across several governorates that had attempted to smuggle unlicensed quantities of narcotics and firearms for trafficking.

The Ministry of Interior confirmed that these hotspots had been targeted, resulting in the deaths of three highly dangerous criminals who had previously been sentenced to prison terms and life imprisonment for felonies related to drug and firearms trafficking, display of force, robbery, and kidnapping.

She explained that the raids took place in the governorates of Qena, Luxor and Assiut, and the remaining members of these hotbeds were arrested. They are accused and have previously been convicted in cases related to drug trafficking, arms trafficking, premeditated murder, attempted murder, assault, causing disability and robbery by force.

Security forces seized from the accused nearly half a ton of various narcotic substances, including: hashish, shabu, heroin, powder and hydro, and a number of narcotic pills, in addition to 126 various firearms, including: 21 automatic rifles, 51 shotguns, 53 shotgun cartridges and a pistol. The ministry estimated the financial value of the seized narcotics at approximately 75 million pounds.
