Report Against Mohamed Ramadan: "Insulting Egypt, Its People, and the Flag"

Lawyer Samir Sabry filed a report with Attorney General Mohamed Shawky against artist Mohamed Ramadan for "appearing in an indecent dance costume and insulting the Egyptian flag," according to the Akhbar Al-Youm website.

The report stated that "artist Mohamed Ramadan recently appeared at the Coachella Festival in the United States, where he grossly insulted the Egyptian state and the entire Egyptian people, as well as authentic Egyptian civilization and art."

The report added: "Ramadan violated the values and customs of Egyptian society and insulted the Egyptian flag after appearing wearing a gold bra similar to the dance costumes worn by female dancers. He then raised and waved the Egyptian flag, insulting the flag and Egyptian symbol. The greatest disaster lies in the fact that many young people are imitating the defendant's clothing and performance, which constitutes a threat to Egyptian society."

He continued, "Mohamed Ramadan insulted the Egyptian flag by raising it in this vulgar manner amidst vulgar dancing, tying it to the flag and waving it in this manner, which is considered an insult to the Egyptian state. He concluded his report by requesting an investigation and referring Mohamed Ramadan to a speedy criminal trial."

Over the past few hours, Ramadan sparked considerable controversy on social media due to his appearance at the festival, which some described as resembling a "dance costume," while others said it was inappropriate for men's clothing.

How did Ramadan respond?

The Egyptian star chose to respond indirectly to the criticism, sharing opinions on his social media accounts that praised or further explained his appearance. Before that, the Egyptian artist had sent a message of thanks to his stylist, writing on his official Instagram account: "Many thanks to Farida Temraza. Your genius transformed my Coachella look into an expression of Egyptian pride and strength."
