The Dubai Luxury Coffee Auction, organized by the Dubai Multi Commodities Center as part of the World Coffee 2025 Dubai exhibition, currently being held at the Dubai World Trade Center, recorded record prices as 16 groups of the rarest and finest coffee beans were displayed, presented by 11 different producers from nine countries, including 11 groups of Geisha coffee, including 6 different types of coffee, making the auction a global showcase for the best coffee producers in the world.
The highest price was achieved by Geisha Natural Coffee from Finca Sofia in Panama, which sold for $10,020 per kg, while another variety from the same farm sold for $8,614 per kg, while a variety from Finca La Mola sold for $2,620 per kg. Oma Natural from Ethiopia sold for $1,100 per kg, a new record for Ethiopian coffee.
The price of a batch of Kona SL34 from Hawaii also set a new record for American coffee, selling for $950 per kg, an eight-fold increase over the previous highest price paid for Kona coffee.
Geisha coffee is one of the rarest and most expensive coffees in the world, known for its unique taste and high quality. It originated in Ethiopia, specifically the village of Geisha, after which it was named, but in the 1960s it was transferred to Panama where it was grown on high-altitude farms. The La Yama beans from producer Los Rodriguez became the most expensive Bolivian coffee ever sold, at $350 per kg.
Khalid Al Hammadi, Senior Vice President of DXB Live, confirmed that the first coffee auction in Dubai, organized by the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre, strengthened the emirate’s position as a global coffee trading hub by bringing together producers, traders and coffee lovers from all over the world.
Specialty coffee is classified as coffee that scores 80 or more points on a 100-point scale used in the Specialty Coffee Association’s tasting form, and all batches offered at the auction scored 92 or more points.
