UAE, the Middle East’s go-to tech hub

UAE is a regional hub for innovation

For years, the United Arab Emirates has been the Middle East’s go-to tech hub, thanks partly to its lack of personal income tax, flexible visa policies, and competitive incentives for international businesses and workers.

The UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has established the Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Technology Council (AIATC) to develop policies and strategies for supporting AI research, infrastructure, and investments in Abu Dhabi

The initiative supports the UAE President’s vision of transforming the country into a leading hub for technology investments, companies, and talents.

Members of the AIATC council include Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak, Jassem Mohamed Bu Ataba Al Zaabi, and G42 CEO Peng Xiao who emphasized the importance of having an AI strategy at the World Economic Forum in Davos this year.

The UAE has already made progress through initiatives like the Emirates Blockchain Strategy launched in 2018 to spur the adoption of blockchain technologies and attract startups. Adopting blockchain is projected to save the UAE AED 11 billion annually in document circulation costs.

Companies like the IOTA DLT Foundation, which received a license from the UAE government and established its headquarters in the country, are partnering with the UAE to leverage distributed ledger technologies.
