The UAE has achieved the highest ranking among the Arab nations in the Berlin-based Transparency International’s Corruption Perceptions Index. It topped the list with 6.2 points followed by Qatar, which bagged 6 points.
The scores range from 10, which is considered to be clean, to zero, which means highly corrupt. The Index is based on studies conducted by 12 independent research houses to guarantee optimum objectivity and authensity.
The UAE credibility score ranged between 5.6 and 6.9 on the Index scale. Mohammed Al Gargawi, Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, said that it was a proud moment.
“The report is an international testimony to the country’s successful efforts in promoting the highest levels of transparency and corporate governance. The top ranking on the international Index is a strong incentive to double our efforts in order to enhance the UAE’s position among the other leading countries that have achieved remarkable success in combating corruption,” he said.
“The UAE government adopts the best international corporate governance standards to ensure maximum transparency levels. The government also exerts maximum efforts to combat fraud and increase the awareness of its employees about the bad effects of corruption,” he added.
