Volunteer Work at Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque: "We Volunteer as a token of gratitude for the nation's generosity"

The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Center continues to promote a culture of volunteerism among young people as part of its social responsibility, which stems from its strategic values, foremost among them the value of "We Volunteer as a token of gratitude for the nation's generosity." This is achieved by providing opportunities for volunteers to serve visitors to the mosque during Fridays, holidays, and religious seasons, especially the holy month of Ramadan.

During Ramadan, the Center worked to increase the number of volunteers and train them to embody the values of giving. Specialized teams and committees were formed, comprising more than 800 volunteers at the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi, the Sheikh Khalifa Grand Mosque in Al Ain, the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Fujairah, and the Sheikh Khalifa Grand Mosque in Ras Al Khaimah.

These volunteers were selected according to rigorous criteria that ensured competence and experience, and their efforts are combined with those of the police, paramedics, civil defense, and support teams.

Volunteers work as part of the center's team to ensure a peaceful and tranquil atmosphere for worshippers. Their duties include welcoming worshippers at the parking areas and directing them to appropriate locations, organizing entry to the prayer halls, providing support to the elderly and people with disabilities, and assisting in transporting worshippers to the mosque's market and parking areas.

The staff of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Center are at the forefront of the "Our Fasting Guests" project, working hand in hand with volunteer teams. Their participation embodies a sense of patriotism rooted in the authentic Emirati heritage, which the center is keen to instill in the nation's youth, setting a shining example for the people of the UAE.

From the early hours, center staff are responsible for deploying teams, assigning tasks to each, managing the flow of worshippers, preparing iftar sites, welcoming those breaking their fast, and overseeing the distribution of meals to ensure smooth movement and the comfort of the guests. After iftar, volunteers supervise the mosque's readiness to receive worshippers in record time.

The "Our Fasting Guests" project is one of the most prominent humanitarian initiatives undertaken annually by the center in memory of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan – may God have mercy on him – who instilled the spirit of giving in the UAE community.

The project is implemented under the auspices of the Zayed Heritage Foundation and in cooperation with its strategic partner, the Heritage Hotel Abu Dhabi.

Thousands of iftar meals are provided daily, in addition to food supplies allocated to beneficiaries in labor camps throughout the holy month. During the first ten days of Ramadan, thousands of meals were distributed at the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi, the Sheikh Khalifa Grand Mosque in Al Ain, and the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Fujairah.

During the last ten days of Ramadan, the organizing committees at the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Center form teams comprised of all center employees to provide all necessary services to the large number of worshippers who flock to the mosque from all over the country to perform Taraweeh and Tahajjud prayers.

The teams are working alongside volunteers from the Emirates Red Crescent, the "Abshir Ya Watan" volunteer team, the "Ma'an" volunteer team, police officers, paramedics, civil defense personnel, and parking and traffic management staff to provide the best possible services for worshippers to perform their prayers with devotion and ease.
