An integrated rescue system supported byAI and advanced technologies
Dubai Municipality Reinforces its Leadership in Beach Safety with an Integrated Rescue System
Dubai Municipality announced the launch of an advanced beach safety system based on the latest smart rescue technologies. This system combines next-generation marine rescue robots and drones specifically designed for overwater rescues, marking a first-of-its-kind initiative in the region and reinforcing Dubai's position as a leading city regionally and globally in implementing smart beach safety concepts.
This initiative is part of a strategic direction towards proactive, AI-powered solutions that contribute to raising protection levels, accelerating response times, and enhancing the beachgoer experience year-round.
The marine rescue robot is the cornerstone of this system, being the first of its kind in the Middle East. It features a remotely controlled, self-propelled rescue buoy with speeds up to five times faster than traditional swimming rescues, an operational range of up to one kilometer within line of sight, and a pulling capacity of up to 500 kilograms. It is designed to operate efficiently in various marine conditions, enabling rescue teams to quickly reach emergency situations and minimize physical risks during the initial phase of rescue operations.
The marine rescue robot system complements the introduction of a marine rescue drone to Dubai’s public beaches, providing aerial support that enhances field operations and coordination. The drone acts as a “flying lifebuoy,” capable of rapidly deploying over the water, landing directly on the sea surface, and providing immediate buoyancy support to people in distress.
It is also equipped with a live-streaming camera that transmits real-time images to rescue teams, enabling rapid incident detection, accurate risk assessment, and improved field coordination.
These two rescue technologies operate within an integrated safety framework, supported by trained rescue teams, continuous monitoring systems, and centralized control centers. This integration enhances Dubai Municipality’s ability to respond quickly across vast coastal areas, particularly in complex or time-critical situations, aligning with global best practices in beach safety management.
Badr Anwahi, CEO of the Public Utilities Agency at Dubai Municipality, said: “Dubai Municipality continues to adopt a proactive approach based on the use of advanced technology to enhance public safety.
Integrating the marine rescue robot with the rescue drone represents a qualitative leap in the way beach safety services are delivered, by combining speed, smart systems, and operational precision. These solutions contribute to enhancing the protection of beach users and reducing risks to rescue teams, reflecting Dubai’s commitment to employing the latest innovations and AI technologies to provide safe and unique beach experiences that meet the highest global standards of public safety and contribute to enhancing the quality of life.”
He added: “Our goal is for Dubai’s beaches to be a global model in safety standards, preparedness, and visitor confidence. By investing in smart rescue technologies and continuously developing the safety system, Dubai Municipality continues to solidify its role in designing future public spaces that place people, their well-being, and their experience at the heart of its priorities, making Dubai an even more attractive and high-quality city to live in.”
Dubai Municipality oversees all public beaches and waterways in the emirate, including Umm Suqeim Night Beach 1, Jumeirah Night Beach 3, Jumeirah Beach 1, Jumeirah Beach 2, and Al Mamzar Beaches. These destinations are managed with the support of qualified lifeguard teams, advanced rescue systems, and continuous monitoring, ensuring a safe, accessible, and high-quality beach environment that aligns with Dubai’s urban aspirations and quality of life goals. |
