The UAE Strengthens Sustainable Industrial Transformation in Partnership with the World Economic Forum

The UAE Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the World Economic Forum on the sidelines of the World Government Summit.

According to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), the agreement aims to transform the Ministry's Industrial Technology Transformation Program (TTP) into a comprehensive enabling platform for Emirati factories.

This platform will help them enhance their operational and technological maturity, solidify the integration of Emirati industrial and technology companies into global value chains, and accelerate the adoption of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and advanced manufacturing.

The agreement was signed by Hassan Jassim Al Nowais, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology, and Saadia Zahidi, Managing Director of the World Economic Forum, in the presence of representatives from both the Ministry and the Forum.

Under the agreement, the Ministry’s Industrial Technology Transformation Index (ITTI) will be aligned with the World Economic Forum’s Lighthouse Operating System, becoming the official entry point for UAE factories into this global framework. This will provide an implementation mechanism for translating international best practices into practical and measurable factory-level plans.

Al Nuwais added: “Integrating the Industrial Technology Transformation Program (TTP) into globally recognized frameworks is the fruit of a strategic partnership with the World Economic Forum.  This is a new step that reflects the UAE’s ability to move from simply adopting technologies to leading scalable and replicable industrial implementation models internationally.

It also enhances the capabilities of industrial technology transformation and propels it to a new stage, making it a strategic driver of sustainable industrial growth. This will enable UAE industrial companies to effectively integrate into global supply chains.”

He noted that this collaboration is the result of coordination and integration with the World Economic Forum during the fourth edition of the “Make in the UAE” platform last May. It embodies the Ministry’s commitment to leading a systematic industrial transformation that strengthens national industrial security and creates sustainable local added value for companies and the industrial business environment.

This is achieved by providing a clear path for factories to raise their operational and technological maturity levels, thereby enhancing global market confidence in the UAE’s industrial system in terms of quality, efficiency, and competitiveness.

For her part, Kiva Olgud, Managing Director at the World Economic Forum and Head of the Centre for Advanced Manufacturing and Supply Chains, said: “The Forum developed the Lighthouse OS to take industrial transformation out of the elite circles and onto a global scale.

It brings together lessons learned from more than 200 leading factories around the world into a practical and systematic framework that any organization, large or small, can adopt and implement.”

She added: “In a world facing the interconnected challenges of supply chain instability and sustainability pressures, industrial transformation is no longer a luxury but a necessity. With 90% of companies globally being small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), the system is designed to be inclusive and scalable.

Most importantly, it places people at the heart of digital transformation. It doesn’t replace workers with technology, but rather empowers them to become active partners in innovation and problem-solving, transforming factories into smart and human-centered production environments.”

[The following sentence appears unrelated and should be omitted:] The agreement stipulates focusing efforts on capacity building, knowledge sharing, and developing a comprehensive national model for industrial transformation that moves beyond assessment to implementation. This is in preparation for launching a new strategic methodology this year, focused on enabling end-to-end transformation.

Two years ago, the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology launched the "Transformation 4.0" initiative to accelerate technological transformation in the UAE's industrial sector. It began by developing an accelerated track to support 100 promising industrial companies and transform a number of them into "industrial beacons" (advanced companies adopting Industry 4.0 practices) under the umbrella of the Industrial Technology Transformation Program.
