The UAE sponsors 326,900 orphans worldwide over 40 years
The number of orphans who have benefited from the Emirates Red Crescent's sponsorship program since its inception 40 years ago has reached 326,971 in dozens of countries around the world. The Emirates Red Crescent sponsors 123,000 orphans in the UAE and 22 other countries.
The orphan sponsorship program, a unique initiative of the Emirates Red Crescent compared to other Red Cross and Red Crescent societies, was launched in 1986. The program has received a tremendous response from sponsors, benefactors, and philanthropists, thanks to the generosity of the UAE.
Each year, the program expands its reach, gaining local, regional, and international dimensions thanks to the attention it receives from the Red Crescent's leadership.
This information was included in a report issued by the organization on the occasion of World Orphan Day, which falls in April each year.
[Emirates Red Crescent logo] The report noted that the Emirates Red Crescent Authority has remained a beacon of goodness in this generous nation. The UAE, under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, continues to operate on the same principles and values.
It is one of the fruits of the noble vision of the Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, whose legacy has flourished and benefited all, near and far, without discrimination or bias based on gender, race, or religion.
The report further explained that the directives of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in the Al Dhafra Region and Chairman of the Emirates Red Crescent Authority, and his diligent oversight of the orphan sponsorship program, have contributed to the Red Crescent's leadership and excellence in this field.
This is in addition to a group of generous individuals from among the citizens and residents of the UAE who are always quick to contribute to charitable causes, reflecting one of the finest examples of social solidarity that characterizes the Emirati people.
On this subject, Ahmed Sari Al Mazrouei, Secretary-General of the Emirates Red Crescent Authority, stated that the Authority works to provide for the needs of orphans in the health, education, and social sectors, as well as other services that support orphans and their families in facing life's challenges and demands.
This is thanks to the sound planning and effective mechanisms the Authority employs in its project to market orphans to sponsors and attract their support for orphans and their families.
Al Mazrouei added: “Thanks to God’s grace and assistance, the Authority has been able to mobilize society across its various sectors towards orphans and their humanitarian needs, drawing attention to their essential requirements. The Authority has been, and will remain, a bridge of human connection between orphans and sponsors, and through it, many humanitarian gains have been achieved for this group so dear to all our hearts.
The Authority’s strategy relies on expanding participation in the implementation of its charitable programs and projects to alleviate their suffering and convey its message to everyone.” He affirmed that the Authority will spare no effort in achieving its goals and will continue its programs for a better future and a dignified life for orphans and their families.
The Emirates Red Crescent Authority employs a unique approach to garnering support for orphans and attracting sponsors for them. This is done by offering sponsorship forms for the number of orphans the Authority seeks sponsors for. Those wishing to support these orphans need only visit the Red Crescent headquarters in Abu Dhabi or any of its branches throughout the UAE.
You can also contact Red Crescent representatives located in public facilities, major shopping centers, and malls, or by calling the toll-free number 800733 or visiting the Red Crescent's website. The monthly sponsorship fee for an orphan outside the UAE is AED 200, while within the UAE it is AED 500.
