UAE's Masdar Signs Agreement to Develop Austria's Largest Green Hydrogen Project
Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) has signed a binding agreement with OMV to establish a joint venture to finance, build, and operate a 140-megawatt green hydrogen electrolysis plant in Bruck an der Litha, Austria, according to the Emirates News Agency (WAM).
Masdar will hold a 49% stake in the new company, which is expected to be fully established by early 2026, while OMV will own 51%. This partnership combines Masdar's global commercial, financial, and technical expertise in developing and operating clean energy projects worldwide with OMV's extensive experience. In the chemicals sector, construction of the plant began in September 2025 and is expected to become operational in 2027.

The partnership was signed in the presence of Sultan Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and Chairman of Masdar; and Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer, Austrian Minister of Economic Affairs, Energy and Tourism.

The agreement was signed during the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC 2025), in the presence of Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and Chairman of Masdar; Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer, Austrian Minister of Economic Affairs, Energy and Tourism; Alfred Stern, Chairman and CEO of OMV; and Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, CEO of Masdar.
The Austrian Press Agency (APA) reported yesterday that the UAE's Masdar will invest in Austria's largest hydrogen project, operated by the oil and gas company OMV.
