The UAE Announces Support for the UN Global Humanitarian Response Plan
Under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, the UAE has announced a new pledge of $550 million to support the UN's Global Humanitarian Response Plan.
This plan aims to raise $33 billion in 2026 to provide relief to approximately 135 million people across 23 humanitarian operations worldwide, in addition to plans specifically designed to support refugees and migrants. The most urgent priority is to save 87 million people in need of immediate assistance, requiring $23 billion in aid.
This initiative reaffirms the UAE's unwavering commitment to supporting international efforts to save lives and respond to disasters and crises affecting the most vulnerable populations around the world.
This support reflects the vital role the UAE plays in promoting multilateral humanitarian action and its close cooperation with UN agencies, including the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), and relief and development programs operating in the field, to ensure aid reaches those most in need in a timely manner, in line with His Highness's directives to focus on a rapid and effective response.
In this regard, Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashemi, Minister of State for International Cooperation, said: “The UAE continues its unwavering commitment to supporting global humanitarian efforts and working with our UN partners to ensure aid reaches those most affected.
This new pledge embodies the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and our deep belief in the necessity of international solidarity and responding to urgent humanitarian appeals in an effective and sustainable manner that preserves human dignity and protects lives.”
The Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator at the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), Tom Fletcher, welcomed the UAE's support, stating: "Our global appeal aims to save lives in the most affected areas and translate plans into tangible protection on the ground.
The UAE's generous and rapid support for the 2026 plan sends a powerful message about supporting those most in need. It is our duty to provide an effective and innovative response that meets the demands of the current situation."
This support builds upon the existing strategic partnership between the UAE and the UN humanitarian system, and underscores the country's continued pivotal role in addressing the most pressing humanitarian challenges, strengthening the international community's capacity to protect lives, and supporting stability in crisis-affected areas, in line with His Highness's directives to maintain the UAE's leading role in global humanitarian action.
