Lana Nusseibeh, Minister of State and Special Envoy of the UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs to the European Union, welcomed the European Parliament's timely resolution supporting efforts to end the civil war in Sudan.

The UAE affirmed its unwavering commitment to supporting all efforts to address this catastrophic war and to working alongside regional and international partners, including Europeans, to ensure security, stability, and sustainable development for the Sudanese people.

Nusseibeh noted that the European Parliament's resolution endorsed the Quartet as the mediation framework for this conflict.

The Minister of State stated that the Quartet's joint statement represents a historic step towards halting the fighting and ending this civil war by establishing a realistic roadmap that begins with a humanitarian truce, followed by a transition to a civilian government independent of the warring parties.

The Quartet also clearly stated that the future of Sudan cannot be determined by extremist groups affiliated with or associated with the Muslim Brotherhood. Only an independent civilian government can lead the reform of Sudan's institutions and liberate the country from extremism.

Regional and International Efforts to End the War in Sudan

She added: “We continue to strongly condemn the grave violations committed by both sides of the conflict—the Rapid Support Forces and the Port Sudan Authority. Their conduct has caused profound suffering and undermined Sudan’s future. It is essential to stop the war immediately and put an end to all acts of violence.”

She also emphasized the UAE’s clear position: an immediate and unconditional ceasefire and the provision of full and unimpeded humanitarian access throughout Sudan via all available routes and corridors. She affirmed that the UAE’s efforts have always been, and remain, primarily humanitarian, reflecting its ongoing commitment to providing relief to the Sudanese people.

According to a report issued by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the UAE has provided $784 million in humanitarian aid, making it the second largest donor to Sudan after the United States since the outbreak of the conflict, and the largest donor for 2025.
