 Dubai: Smart Vending Machines Distribute Free Meals on the Streets

Dubai has launched smart vending machines on the streets, operating around the clock, to provide free hot meals to workers. 

The Mohammed bin Rashid Global Centre for Endowment Consultancy, part of the Awqaf and Minors' Funds Management Foundation in Dubai, stated that the machines are part of the "Bread for the Needy" project, launched in Dubai in 2022 to provide fresh bread free of charge to those in need through smart devices.

In a statement received by the German Press Agency (dpa) today, the center added: "The new machines feature an advanced design with an easy-to-use digital screen, a cooling system that keeps the food fresh, and smart indicators to monitor the machine's status, fill level, and maintenance."

A smart ID system has also been implemented for beneficiaries, allowing them to receive one meal per day, thus ensuring fair distribution and benefiting the largest possible number of people in need.

Ali Al Mutawa, Secretary General of Dubai Awqaf, said: “The devices have been installed near a number of mosques in Dubai, with a plan to gradually expand the initiative by installing more devices in the next phase to cover additional areas according to the needs of the beneficiaries.”

He added: “At the Foundation, we strive to develop the tools of endowment work through smart and sustainable solutions that ensure support reaches those who deserve it with dignity and ease.”

For her part, Zainab Al Tamimi, Director of the Mohammed bin Rashid Global Centre for Endowment Consultancy, explained that the initiative achieved great success when it was launched in 2022, contributing to the daily distribution of large quantities of hot bread through safe and easy-to-use devices.

She added: “The new devices will distribute hot meals free of charge to workers, with remote monitoring and control capabilities to ensure efficient operation and uninterrupted service.”
