Turkish Defense Ministry: Our Activities with Egypt and Libya Do Not Target Anyone
The Turkish Ministry of Defense confirmed on Thursday that its activities in the Mediterranean, in cooperation with Egypt and Libya, do not target any third country, emphasizing that Ankara seeks to make the Mediterranean a "sea of peace."
The ministry said in a statement: "We are continuing our activities in the Mediterranean with Egypt and Libya, and these activities do not target any third country. We are working hard to develop relations with our partners, and we want the Mediterranean to be a sea of peace."
Concern over SDF Contacts with Damascus
Separately, the Turkish Ministry of Defense indicated that it is "carefully and closely" monitoring the ongoing contacts between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which Ankara describes as "terrorist."
The statement added: "The recent attacks targeting Syrian government forces in Manbij and the Aleppo countryside have demonstrated once again that the SDF does not abide by the agreement it signed with the Syrian government on March 10, 2025, and poses a clear threat to regional peace and stability."
The ministry affirmed Turkey's determination to "continue close cooperation with the Syrian government, especially in combating terrorist organizations," reiterating its support for the "one state, one army" principle as the foundation for Syria's stability and security and for achieving peace in the region.
Military Support for the Syrian Government
The Turkish Ministry of Defense emphasized that it will provide "all types of support, by land, sea, and air, to enhance the defense and security capabilities of the new Syrian government." The statement noted that the memorandum of understanding signed between Ankara and Damascus last August contributed to increased mutual visits between military officials from both sides, stressing that "joint training and visits will continue in the coming period."
