Moscow: Most of the Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant Workers Are Egyptian
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk said on Wednesday that the Dabaa nuclear power plant is a prominent project, and that most of its workers are Egyptian, as the industry is being localized in Egypt.
Overchuk told reporters, "The Dabaa nuclear power plant is a very prominent project... 27,000 people work at the site daily, most of them Egyptian citizens," according to Sputnik News Agency. He noted that Russia "is facilitating the localization of production in Egypt, and at the same time, Egyptian students are being trained in fields related to the operation of the nuclear power plant."
He stressed the importance of the Dabaa and Russian industrial zone projects in Egypt, saying, "We have come here and are actually creating a completely new industry in the country, as we always do when building nuclear power plants." A Russian delegation headed by Overchuk arrived in Cairo on Sunday for talks with the Egyptian government.
The Dabaa plant is Egypt's first nuclear power plant and is located in the city of Dabaa in Matrouh Governorate on the Mediterranean coast, approximately 300 kilometers northwest of Cairo. Russia and Egypt signed a cooperation agreement to build the plant in November 2015, and contracts for the plant entered into force in December 2017 during Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to Cairo.
