Study: Thousands of people die annually in Britain due to ultra-processed foods.
A study has concluded that thousands of deaths annually in Britain may be linked to the consumption of ultra-processed foods. include ice cream, processed meats, soft drinks, and other foods.
The British news agency (AP Media) reported that the experts who conducted the research said they believe there is a link between eating ultra-processed foods and an increased risk of premature death. It is worth noting that a link has previously been found between ultra-processed foods, which include ice cream, processed meats, and soft drinks, and poor health, including an increased risk of obesity, heart disease, cancer, and premature death.
These types of foods often contain high levels of saturated fat, salt, sugar, and additives, which experts say leaves less room for more nutritious foods in people's diets. In the new study, published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine, the experts recommended that governments issue dietary recommendations aimed at reducing the consumption of ultra-processed foods.
The experts examined data from eight countries around the world and concluded that ultra-processed foods accounted for 53 percent of calorie intake in Britain—the second highest proportion after the United States, which recorded 55 percent.
