Sisi Receives Invitation from Putin to Participate in Victory Day Celebrations


Informed official sources revealed that Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi received an invitation from his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, to visit Russia to participate in the Victory Day celebrations on May 9.


 The sources confirmed to Egyptian and international media that President Sisi is accept Putin's invitation to attend the military parade and celebrations to be held in Moscow's Red Square. The Russian president will deliver a speech, accompanied by dozens of leaders from countries that have confirmed their attendance.


President Sisi accept Putin's invitation to visit Moscow and participate in this historic occasion, which is held annually and is attended by dozens of leaders and officials from various countries, according to the same sources.


 The sources indicated that a bilateral meeting is expected between President Sisi and his Russian counterpart on the sidelines of the celebrations to discuss bilateral relations and regional and international developments.


Diplomatic Relations between Egypt and Russia


Earlier, the embassy in Cairo said in a statement: "The Russian Embassy in Egypt congratulates our dear Egyptian friends on the occasion of the celebrated establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The formalization of our interaction began in February 1943, when Egypt's Ambassador to London, Nashat Pasha, invited Ivan Maisky, the Soviet Union's Plenipotentiary Representative in Britain, to breakfast at his residence and offered to initiate work on the possibility of establishing diplomatic relations between the two countries."


Formal diplomatic relations between Egypt and Russia were established on August 26, 1943. Historical relations between Cairo and Moscow date back centuries, and history has witnessed the strength, interconnectedness, and cooperation between the two countries in all fields.
