Egypt Signs Agreement with Siemens Gamesa to Build 500 MW
The Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) signed an agreement with Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy to build a 500 MW wind power plant in the Gulf of Suez, according to a statement issued by the Egyptian Cabinet.
Under the agreement, Siemens Gamesa will build, finance, and operate the project, which will contribute to increasing the share of renewable energy in the electricity mix and achieving Egypt's renewable energy goals. This is within the framework of a work program, implementation plans, and a specific timeframe to increase the share of renewable energy in the energy mix to 42% by 2030 and 65% by 2040. This will increase reliance on clean energy, reduce the use of fossil fuels, and reduce carbon emissions.
Egyptian Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat stated that the project falls within the framework of the Egyptian state's efforts to support and develop the renewable energy sector, maximize returns from available natural resources, reduce reliance on fossil fuels, and reduce carbon emissions. Ayman Saad, CEO of Siemens Gamesa Egypt, said that the company's projects in Egypt have contributed to providing 1.5 gigawatts of electricity through clean energy sources.
