Happiness Index: UAE Ranks First in the Arab World, Other Countries Rank Lower
The results of the World Happiness Index, released Thursday, revealed that the UAE topped the list of the happiest Arab countries, while Lebanon ranked last.
The UAE ranked 21st in the World Happiness Report 2025, outperforming all Arab countries and surpassing major nations such as the United States, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom. The UAE achieved this advanced ranking due to its strong economy, distinguished infrastructure, and high levels of social support, as well as the state of peace and security the country enjoys.
Kuwait ranked 30th, Saudi Arabia 32nd, Oman 52nd, Bahrain 59th, Libya 79th, Algeria 84th, Iraq 101st, Palestine 10th, Morocco 112th, Tunisia 113th, and Mauritania 114th.
Lebanon ranked last among Arab countries, ranking 145th, while Yemen (140th), Egypt (135th), and Jordan (128th) were among the least happy countries.
The ranking included 147 countries, with Afghanistan ranking last according to subjective life assessments averaged over the period from 2022 to 2024. The researchers identified several key factors that contribute to individual happiness, including social support, income, health freedom, and the prevalence of corruption.
The report is based on Gallup World Poll data collected from people in more than 140 countries. Countries are ranked according to their happiness levels based on average life evaluations over the previous three years, in this case from 2022 to 2024.
Scandinavian countries top the list
Globally, Finland ranked first as the happiest country in the world for the eighth consecutive year, according to the report. Scandinavian countries also topped the top ten, with Denmark in second place, followed by Iceland and Sweden. Norway ranked seventh, the Netherlands in fifth, Costa Rica in sixth, Norway in seventh, Luxembourg in ninth, and Mexico in tenth.
