
"Emirati Masdar" signs an agreement to build clean energy projects in Africa and Asia.. In cooperation with Total France and "TwoPointZero"
The Emirati Masdar Company, "Abu Dhabi Future Energy", signed a new framework agreement to promote clean energy projects in emerging markets and countries with developing economies, in both Africa and Asia.
According to a statement , the Emirati company signed the agreement, Monday, February 17, 2025, with the French company TotalEnergies and "EPointZero", which specializes in decarbonization and is affiliated with the Emirati company "TwoPointZero".
The signing of the agreement was witnessed by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Emirati Masdar Company, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, the CEO of TotalEnergies Patrick Pouyanné, and the CEO of "TwoPointZero" Mariam Al Muhairi.
The new agreement, signed by Masdar on the sidelines of the third general meeting of the UAE-France High-Level Business Council held in Paris, follows the visit of UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to France and his talks with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron.
During the meeting, the two presidents stressed the strength of the strategic partnership between the two friendly countries, in addition to discussing enhancing cooperation in a number of key sectors, such as climate action, energy, artificial intelligence and advanced technology.
Providing reliable and sustainable electricity
Under the agreement, Masdar will work with Total to provide reliable and sustainable electricity to local communities in Africa, in addition to cooperating to support a qualitative shift in energy systems in the long term.
The agreement also includes working on the joint development of a number of clean energy projects in the Southeast Asian region, while the French company will explore partnership opportunities with EPoint Zero that support India’s clean energy goals.
The projects that will be targeted by the UAE's Masdar, France's Total and India's E-Point Zero projects include solar energy, wind energy and energy storage projects, which will contribute to decarbonization efforts, according to what the specialized energy platform has reviewed.
The new agreement brings together the three major companies under the umbrella of the council for joint cooperation, with the aim of enhancing their capabilities and developing more clean energy projects in emerging markets and countries with developing economies in Africa and Asia.
On this occasion, Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, CEO of the UAE's Masdar Company, said that the agreement comes within the framework of the strong relationship between the UAE and France, as the company is proud to work with Total to contribute to the development of clean energy projects in various regions of Southeast Asia and Africa.
He added: "The agreement reflects our shared commitment to empowering local communities, driving economic and social development, promoting sustainable progress, and achieving a qualitative shift in the global energy sector. The partnership comes on the heels of the signing of a framework cooperation agreement between the UAE and France in the field of artificial intelligence."
Developing Oil and Gas Reserves
Total’s President of Gas, Renewables and Power, Stephane Michel, said that the partnership with the UAE’s Masdar extends over 80 years in the field of developing oil and gas reserves, and it is a pleasure to expand it to include developing renewable energy projects in emerging markets in Asia and Africa.
He continued: “Combining the extensive expertise and global reach of the UAE’s Masdar companies, its compatriots E-Point Zero and Total, represents an opportunity to accelerate the growth of the three companies’ projects and improve their investments in these fast-growing markets, where renewable energy is a pillar for achieving a qualitative shift there.”
For her part, Mariam Al-Mheiri, CEO of TwoPoint Zero, said that this partnership reflects the depth of relations between the UAE and France, and enhances their joint commitment to making a qualitative shift in the global energy sector, according to the statement reviewed by the specialized energy platform.
She explained that by combining the expertise of the UAE’s Masdar, the French Total and E-Point Zero, work will be done to expand the scope of providing clean energy in emerging markets, accelerate decarbonization efforts, and drive economic development.
She added: “This partnership will contribute to the deployment of renewable energy and energy storage solutions across India, Africa and Asia, and will contribute to ensuring the provision of reliable and sustainable electricity to millions of people, and building a more sustainable world.”
