UAE & France sign AI cooperation framework
His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and French President Emmanuel Macron witnessed the signing ceremony of the "UAE-France Framework for Cooperation in the Field of Artificial Intelligence", which was signed on behalf of the UAE by Khaldoon Al Mubarak, Member of the Abu Dhabi Council for Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Technology, and on behalf of France by Jean-Noël Barrot, Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs, and Eric Lombard, Minister of Economy and Finance.
This came during a working visit by UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to France, during which he discussed with Emmanuel Macron, French President, the various paths of the historical and strategic relations between the two countries and the possibilities of expanding their horizons, especially in the economic, investment and cultural fields, in addition to climate action, energy, advanced technology, artificial intelligence and other aspects that enhance the vision of the two countries and their aspirations towards achieving sustainable development and prosperity.
The agreement aims to invest in a 1-gigawatt artificial intelligence complex in France, in addition to building a strategic partnership in the field of artificial intelligence and exploring new opportunities for cooperation in projects and investments that support the use of advanced chips, data center infrastructure, and human resources development, in addition to establishing "virtual data embassies" to enable the infrastructure for artificial intelligence and cloud computing in both countries, among others.
The wide scope of activities and the volume of infrastructure development stipulated in the cooperation framework enhance the strength and dynamism of the relationship between the two countries. Within the framework of this cooperation, the two sides will closely monitor the progress of joint projects in the field of artificial intelligence during the coming period, according to the official Emirates News Agency.
The Elysee Palace also announced that the UAE will build a "complex" in France centered on artificial intelligence, with a giant information center with a computing capacity of up to one gigawatt, "which represents investments worth between 30 and 50 billion euros," according to Agence France-Presse.
During the meeting held at the Elysee Palace, the French President welcomed Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed's visit, expressing his happiness to meet him in France, while the UAE President expressed his thanks and appreciation to President Emmanuel Macron for the warm reception.
During the meeting, the two sides reviewed regional and international developments and exchanged views on them, stressing their common keenness to continue consultation and work together to enhance peace and stability in the Middle East and the world and to cooperate in facing common challenges that constitute a global priority.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, said in this context that there is fruitful cooperation between the UAE and France in many fields, most notably energy and climate action, as the two countries have been bound by a "comprehensive strategic partnership agreement in the field of energy" since 2022.
