UAE stresses OPEC+ decision was vote-based collective

UAE supports Opec+ decision to cut oil production

The UAE on Monday said it fully stands with Saudi Arabia in its efforts to support energy stability and security, UAE state news agency (WAM) reported.

UAE also added that it supports the Saudi foreign ministry’s statement regarding the latest OPEC+ decision and rejects statements that push for politicising it, WAM said.

Citing WAM, the UAE has expressed support for the statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, regarding reviewing the status of oil markets and reducing production, noting that the decision was collective, and based on the vote of Opec+.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MoFAIC) underscored that the UAE — as a member of the group and a partner of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia — affirms the technical nature of the decision, and rejects statements that push for its politicization.

The Ministry also underscored the need for constructive dialogue that served the interests of all countries.

This affirmation of support for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is in line with its efforts to achieve energy stability and security, in a manner that serves the interests of producers and consumers, and promotes economic growth and development worldwide.

Several member states of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) issued statements yesterday defending their recent decision to cut oil production. The United Arab Emirates' energy minister said that the move was not motivated by politics.

The official Kuwait News Agency reported that the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation “welcomes” the OPEC+ decision. Oman and Algeria also publicly backed the production cut.
