WhatsApp Challenges Zoom with New Calling Features
Meta has announced a set of new calling features for its WhatsApp messaging app, including new group calling capabilities that make it easier to make calls and transform WhatsApp into a temporary alternative to Zoom.
The new WhatsApp features allow users to schedule calls with friends, relatives, colleagues, and other contacts, according to a post on the WhatsApp blog on Thursday. These scheduled calls will be located in the "Calls" tab, and as the call's start time approaches, all participants will receive a notification prompting them to join.
From the "Calls" tab, users will be able to manage scheduled calls, view the attendee list, and view call links to add to their personal calendar or share with others. WhatsApp has also added new ways for users to express themselves during group calls. Users will be able to raise their hands to indicate they want to speak, or send a reaction to participate without interrupting the speakers.
In addition, WhatsApp has also added improvements to call links. From now on, users will receive a notification whenever someone joins the call for which they created the link.
