Expo 2020 Dubai hosts World Chess Championship

The International Chess Federation FIDE has brought the thrilling World Chess Championship 2021 to the UAE.

Organized by FIDE in partnership with Expo., the postponed 2020 championship will feature reigning world champion, Magnus Carlsen of Norway, defend his title against the winner of the Candidates Tournament, the Russian Grandmaster Ian Nepomniachtchi.

The chess masters will play the best of 14 games, with a prize fund of €2 million at stake. This will be the fifth World Championship match for Carlsen, who first won the title in 2013, dethroning Indian star Viswanathan Anand.

The clash will take place until December 16 with commentary by the five-time world chess champion Anand, who will be present at the venue along with International Master Almira Skripchenko.

Sitting inside the auditorium is an enjoyable experience for the spectators. The lights on spectators get completely switched off, and watching the players battling it out on the stage is an enjoyable experience.

There will also be a number of side events, including exhibition matches and appearances by former champions. Tickets to this event, priced at Dh95, are sold separately on platinumlist.net

The venue is situated within a 45-minute drive from the major transport hubs of Dubai through a dedicated metro station, built specifically for the purpose.

The match is held at the south hall of the gigantic Dubai Exhibition Centre, a 45,000 square meter space with an auditorium, multi-purpose halls, suites and meeting rooms.

With 192 pavilions, myriad exhibitions, hundreds of restaurants and non-stop activities, there are experiences for every taste at Expo 2020 Dubai.
