Expo 2020 Dubai marks World Children’s Day


At the World Children's Day flagship concert hosted by Expo 2020 Dubai, young people took over the on Saturday reimagining a better future, as the biggest-ever celebration of World Children’s Day arrived in Dubai.

UNICEF announced the appointment of two new UNICEF Youth Advocates, Gitanjali Rao, an inventor from the United States of America and TIME Kid of the Year, and Saeed Almutaiwei, member of the United Arab Emirates Children's Parliament.

At the event, fifty children of various nationalities, chosen to represent the UAE’s melting pot of cultures, opened Expo’s entry gates and the new UNICEF Youth Advocates shared their visions for the future.

Hessa Buhumaid, Minister of Community Development, Reem Al Falasi, Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood and Ted Chaiban, Unicef regional director for the Middle East and North Africa, addressed the event.

From innovations driving progress on child-related Sustainable Development Goals to touching on education, mental health, climate and youth leadership, Expo’s World Children’s Day witnessed young thought leaders envision a better future and mobilizing collective action.

Lebanese singer and UNICEF Regional Ambassador Yara closed the event with a concert featuring her popular Arabic songs. The event was organized by Expo 2020 in partnership with the Ministry of Community Development and the UN children's fund.

World Children’s Day was established in 1954 as Universal Children's Day and is celebrated on November 20 each year to promote international togetherness and awareness among children worldwide and improve children's welfare.
