Hashtag "Girls' Stalker" sets Qatar on fire

This week, a hashtag reading "Girls' Stalker" circulated widely on Arabic-language social media in Qatar. It has sparked outrage from activists who spread it demanding the harasser to be justly punished.

After girls wrote on social media on how they were subjected to harassment by a Syrian plastic surgeon, Qatari police moved to investigate their complaints.

In a statement, the Qatari police stated that allegations of harassment circulated on social media are under investigation and necessary legal measures have been taken.

The hashtag "Girls' Stalker" went viral on Tweeter following complaints published by victims who tweeted about repeated offences by the Syrian doctor Maedad Al-Amatory against his patients.

As a result, the medical center where the suspect used to work suspended him pending investigation.

In conservative societies, women, especially young girls, never report the abuser fearing this would defame them or backfire on them by their families.
