During a virtual meeting, the UAE Fatwa Council has declared the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood movement a terrorist organization due to its support for violent extremist groups, disputes with leaderships, and disobedience.
The council also stressed that its stances against terror groups and organizations stem from the UAE leadership’s principled vision toward all instigators of violence regardless of their names and messages.
Citing verses from the Holy Quran and Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), the council affirmed that it is not permissible to pledge allegiance to anyone other than the ruler. It is also not permissible to pledge allegiance to a clandestine ‘emir’.
The Saudi Council of Senior Scholars also referred to the bloody history of the Muslim Brotherhood. “Out of the Muslim Brotherhood’s womb, many extremist and terrorist groups have emerged, wreaking havoc on so many territories, which has been clearly demonstrated by their violence and crimes all over the world,” the council said in its statement.
Earlier on Saturday, Egypt’s Grand Mufti Shawki Allam said that belonging to the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood group “is religiously forbidden” due to the group’s ideologies that call for inciting violence. He also hailed the Saudi Council of Senior Scholars’ decision to designate the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist group that does not represent the approach of Islam.
The Muslim Brotherhood, founded more than 90 years ago in Egypt, has a network of affiliated groups across the Middle East and beyond. It is backed by Qatar and Turkey but is considered a terrorist organization by several Arab countries as well as Russia.
