Record Production: Egypt Announces Drilling of a New Well in the Zohr Gas Field


The Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources announced the completion of drilling the Zohr-9 well in the Zohr natural gas field in the Mediterranean Sea. The well's results revealed a gas-bearing layer capable of producing approximately 70 million cubic feet of gas per day.


In a statement released Wednesday, the Ministry explained that the Zohr-9 well was drilled using the Saipem 10000 drilling vessel, adhering fully to safety standards and the planned schedule. The Ministry noted that the new well is a continuation of the achievements of the Zohr-6 well, part of the Zohr field's production development plan, and indicates the promising potential for future development phases of the field. 


In a related development, drilling commenced yesterday, Tuesday, on the new exploratory natural gas well "Denise W-1X" in the Denise development area off the coast of Port Said in the Mediterranean Sea. The Egyptian drilling rig "Al-Qahir-2," belonging to the Modern Drilling Company, is operating in water depths of 98 meters, targeting a total depth exceeding 4,200 meters. 


Badawi explained that intensifying work programs and drilling new wells in the concession areas of the Italian company Eni demonstrates the company's confidence in the investment climate of the oil and gas sector in Egypt and reflects its commitment to injecting new investments and strengthening the partnership.
