Egypt & UAE Discuss Cooperation to Train Water Workers in Egypt & African Countries

Dr. Hani Sweilem, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, met with Dr. Walid Al Ali, Secretary-General of the Digital School and Skills Academies from the United Arab Emirates, and Engineer Mohamed Badran, Director of the Digital School and Skills Academies Programs.

Training and Capacity Building for Water Workers

During the meeting, ways to enhance cooperation between the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation and the "Digital School Initiative" were discussed in the field of training and capacity building for water workers in Egypt and African countries.

The initiative aims to leverage the "SkillED Academies" program, implemented within the initiative, which provides opportunities for remote digital training while linking trainees' performance to the labor market—facilitating job opportunities—through academies in agriculture and irrigation, hospitality, technology, and project management.

Procedures for cooperation between the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation and the Agriculture and Irrigation Academy, part of the Skills Academies Program, were discussed.

This included launching a remote digital training program (Level 1) and an in-person training program (Level 2) with the participation of Egyptian and African trainees at the headquarters of the African Center for Water and Climate Adaptation (PACWA). An agreement was reached to unify efforts between the Ministry and the initiative to develop distinguished programs to be offered to African countries.

Dr. Sweilam explained that this training aims to prepare distinguished human cadres in the field of water in Africa by transferring the distinguished expertise of the Egyptian Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation to our African counterparts, contributing to the preparation of young African cadres to effectively address the challenges of water resource management and achieve food security on the continent.

Dr. Walid Al Ali stated, "We are pleased to cooperate with the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation in Egypt to launch specialized training programs that contribute to preparing African cadres capable of effectively managing their natural resources.

Empowering youth with specialized knowledge and skills in the fields of water and agriculture represents a pivotal step toward achieving food and water security on the continent. We consider this to be part of the Digital School's mission to promote sustainable development through education.

Digital education also provides broader training opportunities for a larger segment of learners and keeps pace with the demands of the modern era and its evolving skills, ensuring that knowledge is accessible to all efficiently and fairly."

It is worth noting that the "Digital School Initiative" is the first integrated and accredited digital school, launched under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, with the aim of enhancing educational opportunities around the world and building skills through the use of digital education and its tools.
