In an unprecedented partnership that highlights the pivotal role of civil society in advancing sustainable development, the Sawiris Foundation for Social Development and the Essam and Mai Allam Foundation for Sustainable Development announced the launch of a four-year strategic partnership (2025–2029) under the slogan: "Partnership for Change... Based on Evidence, Committed to Impact."

The agreement, valued at EGP 200 million and funded equally by the two foundations, was announced at a high-profile ceremony held at the Grand Egyptian Museum, an iconic landmark that embodies Egypt's rich legacy of cooperation and progress. The agreement was signed in the presence of Eng. Naguib Sawiris, Founder and Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Sawiris Foundation for Social Development, and Eng. Hassan Allam, Founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Essam and Mai Allam Foundation for Sustainable Development.

The ceremony was attended by senior officials, including Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation; Dr. Maya Morsy, Minister of Social Solidarity; and Eric Chevallier, French Ambassador to Egypt, along with a number of public figures and representatives of local and international development partners.

Partnership Objectives:

This partnership aims to unify efforts and enhance development impact across various sectors and fields by developing programs and initiatives that contribute to:

* Improving the quality of life for individuals and empowering communities.

* Promoting economic and social opportunities.

* Supporting arts and culture.

* Stimulating innovation.

* Strengthening society's ability to adapt to challenges and build a sustainable future for all.

For her part, Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation, emphasized the importance of this partnership, which is based on three main axes:

Education, agriculture, and community development.

She pointed out that these axes represent priorities in the Egyptian government's vision for achieving development, explaining that civil society organizations have become essential partners internationally, alongside governments and the private sector, in mobilizing resources, bridging financing gaps for the Sustainable Development Goals, and reaching the most vulnerable groups. She added that the Ministry has extensive partnerships with the Sawiris Foundation in several areas, including the establishment of the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) office to support evidence-based policies. She emphasized her commitment to strengthening cooperation between civil society and international partners to expand social safety nets and support development efforts.

For her part, Egyptian Minister of Social Solidarity Maya Morsy expressed her pride in participating in this event, emphasizing that Egypt has always been rich in charitable and development work, rooted in the principles and foundations of sustainable development since the dawn of history. She explained that the strength of Egyptian civil society lies in each organization adopting a different approach but remaining unified in its goal, deeply impactful, and evolving over time, likening this to historical roots that have branched out and yielded a tremendous diversity of initiatives.

She added that the Sawiris Foundation has been a pioneer in comprehensive and sustainable development over the past 25 years, contributing to improving the lives of hundreds of thousands through quality education, appropriate training, and the provision of decent job opportunities, in addition to promoting culture and the arts as a pillar of development and raising community awareness.

For his part, French Ambassador Eric Chevallier emphasized that this partnership embodies Egypt's modern vision, which places sustainable development at the forefront of its priorities. He noted that France views Egypt as a strategic partner not only at the governmental level, but also through supporting community initiatives to improve quality of life. He added that Egypt's experience in building local development partnerships with a global vision has received widespread acclaim, and that these efforts open the way for enhanced international cooperation in areas such as education, smart agriculture, and economic empowerment.

For his part, Engineer Naguib Sawiris, Founder and Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Sawiris Foundation, said: "Our partnership today with the Essam and Mai Allam Foundation reflects a shared belief that confronting poverty and social and economic challenges can only be achieved by uniting efforts and combining resources and expertise. This is not a traditional charitable initiative, but a strategic investment in Egypt's future. We are not just investing in projects, but in the Egyptian people: in their education, in their unlimited potential, and in their ability to face the future with confidence."

Engineer Hassan Allam, Founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Essam and Mai Allam Foundation for Sustainable Development, said: "Our foundation was founded on the values and principles in which our late father and sister believed, and represents a living embodiment of a profound humanitarian legacy spanning ninety years. This partnership is a natural extension of this approach and opens new horizons of hope for millions of Egyptians. True development begins with empowering local communities, where every opportunity—no matter how small—can bring about a fundamental transformation."
