Doha: Arab-Islamic Summit continues to discuss ways to respond to the Israeli attack

The Arab-Islamic Summit continues on Monday in the Qatari capital, Doha, with the participation of a number of Arab and Islamic leaders to discuss ways to respond to the Israeli attack on Qatari territory.

Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of Qatar, opened the opening session, stressing that "Doha was subjected to a treacherous attack, and that the Israeli aggression was shocking to the entire world... resulting in deaths, including a Qatari," describing the aggression as a "cowardly terrorist act." He pointed out that Qatar has been working for two years as a mediator to end the war of genocide in Gaza and return the hostages.

The Emir of Qatar noted that "for Israel, negotiations are a war tactic... the Israeli government does not want the hostages," emphasizing that "the Israeli government is exploiting the war to expand settlements and change the status quo." He said, "The Israeli government believes it will impose a fait accompli on the Arabs... Netanyahu dreams of the Arab region becoming an Israeli sphere of influence." The Emir of Qatar said, "Israel insists on continuing its war of annihilation in Gaza... and Hamas was considering a proposal to stop the war during the Israeli attack."

The Secretary-General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, Hussein Ibrahim Taha, spoke, emphasizing support for the Palestinian people's right to self-determination and the establishment of their state. The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, affirmed that "the Israeli aggression against Qatar has exceeded all limits." Statements were then made by leaders and heads of state from Arab and Islamic countries condemning the Israeli attack on Doha.

Last night, Doha hosted a preparatory meeting of foreign ministers and representatives from 57 Arab and Islamic countries. The meeting discussed a draft statement regarding the Israeli attack on the State of Qatar, which targeted the residential headquarters of several Hamas leaders in Doha last Tuesday. During the meeting, Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani called on the international community to punish Israel for its crimes in the region. The Prime Minister of Qatar also announced that his country would continue its mediation efforts with Egypt and the United States to end the war in Gaza.

In this context, the draft final statement issued by the extraordinary Arab-Islamic summit included several points. According to the draft statement, the summit emphasized that the Israeli aggression against Qatar and the continuation of its aggressive practices undermine the prospects for peace and threaten all that has been achieved towards establishing normal relations with Israel, including existing and future agreements.

The draft statement rejected repeated Israeli threats to target the State of Qatar again or any Arab or Islamic country. The draft also emphasized that the Israeli aggression against Qatar directly aims to undermine ongoing efforts and mediation aimed at halting the aggression on the Gaza Strip. Qatar hosts the largest US base in the region and is mediating the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza alongside the United States and Egypt.

Last Tuesday, Israel bombed a residential area in Doha, killing six people, including a Qatari security officer. The death toll included the son of Khalil al-Hayya, Hamas's most prominent leader abroad, and his chief of staff. Hamas said its senior leadership survived the assassination attempt. The attack sparked widespread international condemnation and rare criticism from US President Trump.

US President Donald Trump described Qatar as an important ally of the United States and noted that Israel has the freedom to deal with Hamas, but must be careful and carefully consider who it attacks. Qatar, along with Egypt and the United States, is mediating in the ongoing conflict in Gaza between Israel and Hamas.
